Family Support Council

The Family Support Council is dedicated to supporting people with developmental disabilities and acquired brain disorders, and their families, in partnership with Region 10 Family Support Services Inc. As an advisory Council, we strive to increase community awareness, expand recreational opportunities, and provide support, training and other resources to families in our community. We meet every third Tuesday evening of the month from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm. Dinner and converstation starts at 6:30 and the business portion begins at 7:00.

The Family Support Council operates in accordance with the following Family Support Principles and must not be judgmental and must value family choices:

~All children, regardless of disability, belong with families.
~Families must receive support necessary to care for their children at home.
~Family Support must focus on the entire family.
~Family Support must be sensitive to the unique needs and strengths of every family served
        through Region 10.
~Family Support must build on existing social networks and natural sources of support.
~Families must have access to appropriate services to meet their needs.
~Family Support is needed throughout the lifespan of the individual who has a disability.
~Family Support encourages the integration of people with disabilities into the community.

Council members also are a part of sub-committees of Region 10 such as Fundraising, Environmental Modifications, Waitlist, Respite, etc.; therefore allowing family voices to be heard.
